Common issues facing belt conveyors include lagging delamination, inaccurate belt tracking, and premature belt wear. Lagging failure can lead to significant downtime and substantial costs. VDG is leading the industry in eliminating these concerns with the new patented IronGrip™ Lagging System. The VDG Drum Motor with IronGrip Lagging extends the lifetime of the lagging, the belt, and the overall conveyor system.

IronGrip™ Lagging System Design

Composed of tapered steel bar reinforcements welded onto the drive shell with sectional rubber lagging panel inserts, the patented IronGrip™ Lagging System transfers load forces more efficiently than standard rubber lagging, extending the lifespan of all components in the conveyor system. The optional IronGrip™ Plus features ceramic tiles inserted into the rubber lagging sections, to further enhance grip and debris removal for heavy industry applications.

Eliminate Lagging Delamination

During normal conveyor operation a belt will stretch across the lagging to adjust for tension, which in turn puts shear forces on the bonding that keeps the lagging in place on the drum. Over time, this will lead to lagging delamination.

On the IronGrip™ lagging system, the tapered steel bars lock the lagging into place, converting all the shear forces usually applied to a standard lagging, into compressed forces that have a much lower impact.

Reduce Belt Slippage and Belt Wear

With conventional rubber lagging, excessive belt tension is applied to maintain traction, resulting in increased wear on the belt, lagging, and conveyor system components. IronGrip™ provides up to 40% more traction than standard SBR rubber lagging, allowing for less pre-tensioning while providing higher belt-pull, shielding all conveyor system components from excessive stress.

Improve Belt Tracking

On the IronGrip™ Lagging System, the welded steel bars provide equal wear of the material and aid in overall belt tracking by distributing the compressive strength across the belt. Over time and with use, the rubber lagging sections will wear down – however, they cannot wear below the height of the welded steel bars, ensuring that proper belt tracking is always achieved.
